We don’t negotiate with suppliers and vendors, rather we just tell them what we are going to do or go elsewhere for that particular transaction. It’s okay to have healthy competition amongst those we purchase from, and sometimes it’s not worth it to negotiate, rather just pay a little extra for what you need to maintain a healthy relationship.

For every package order with long lead items and even commodities, have the requirements for the quote to include local storage of the material that is insured. Purchase up front a bulk buyout of 80-90% of the commodity material from YOUR or YOUR FIELD LEADER’S takeoff NEVER the estimate takeoff. Doing this strategy gives you: -the flexibility to avoid almost all material delays -gives you the pricing you bid in your estimate or even cheaper in some cases -gives you the power to complete the job as schedule priorities shift and become available -gives you the ability to bill and pay for the material portion of the contract within the first 3-10 months. This is how ALL top 200 ENR companies do it so you can too.
