Typically Six Sigma methodologies are used to eliminate variation in your process thus allowing for greater control in your output. It would be advisable to focus on Lean implementation to reduce, or eliminate, the waste in the process prior to use Six Sigma tools.

In my opinion, by reading these paragraphs, Six sigma combines the vision and mission of companies with the strategies followed or used in achieving them. Both the vision and strategy are inextricably intertwined and while the vision might be more stable/unchanged such as customers satisfaction by high quality products, the strategies are subjects to change depending on the results achieved. Continuing improvements in manufacturing processes, workforce development, use of updated automation technology and information/electronic technology are all parts of the strategy. If the expected outcomes/results are not enough satisfactory, the strategies must change.

2 Six Sigma Levels

Six Sigma has different levels of certification and proficiency that indicate the skills and knowledge of the practitioners. White Belts demonstrate basic awareness and understanding of Six Sigma concepts and tools, Yellow Belts are able to participate in Six Sigma projects and support the team members, Green Belts have the ability to lead and execute Six Sigma projects within a specific area or function, Black Belts are capable of managing and overseeing multiple Six Sigma projects across the organization and mentoring other practitioners, while Master Black Belts have the capacity to develop and implement the Six Sigma strategy and vision for the organization, as well as training and coaching other practitioners.

To define which six sigma level you need, It's necessary to look forward how complex and far you are from your solution. One good illustration to represent this is the apple tree. There are fruits that you can collect easily from the floor, another one that you should put more effort to caught in the tree and those that It's just possible to achieve with the correct tool. The statistic is the key that make this change thought the levels.

3 Six Sigma Phases

Six Sigma follows a structured and systematic approach to problem-solving and improvement, known as DMAIC. This acronym stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control. The Define phase involves defining the problem, goal, scope and customer requirements of the project. The Measure phase measures the current performance and collects data on the process and outputs. Analyzing the data helps to identify the root causes of variation and defects. The Improve phase implements solutions to address root causes and test their effectiveness. Finally, the Control phase involves monitoring the performance and maintaining improvements.

The phases in the six sigma project are important to help you a clarity of the problem, finding potential causes, prioritizing solutions and control the process. It's framework that help to conduct the project end to end. DMAIC is very similar with PDCA, because the steps have the same purpose, the difference is that them are settled in more detailed steps.

4 Six Sigma Tools

Six Sigma is a method used to analyze, improve, and control processes and outputs. Common tools employed in this methodology include SIPOC which maps out Suppliers, Inputs, Process, Outputs, and Customers of a process; Pareto Chart which displays the frequency or impact of different factors or causes; Fishbone Diagram which identifies and organizes the possible causes of a problem or an effect; 5 Whys which drills down to the root cause of a problem by asking why repeatedly; and Control Chart which plots the performance of a process over time and shows the upper and lower control limits and the mean. These tools help prioritize the most significant factors, detect any variation or trends that are out of control, and provide actionable insights.
