The most important thing when defining goals is to get 100% clear on why we want the outcome we have in mind. Often we stay too focused on an extrinsic outcome - and then berate ourselves when we fall short. For instance, I went into a Q&A session thinking I needed to generate client leads. When none materialized, I felt frustrated. Eventually I asked myself why I wanted those leads in the first place: to build future revenue in my business. Interestingly, the relationships that began the Q&A session did lead to revenue over time. I came to realize that I'm playing a long game, and staying clear on that "why" has helped my goals from speaking and Q&As focus on intangibles rather than immediate post-event numbers.

2 Choose your methods

Collecting feedback and data from your Q&A session can be done in a variety of ways, from informal to formal, qualitative to quantitative, and direct to indirect. Surveys are a popular option, allowing you to rate your performance on a scale or answer open-ended questions. Polls, on the other hand, can be used with tools like Slido or Mentimeter and help you gauge the level of interest, engagement, and agreement among the audience.
