How do you maintain a unique style in computer-generated artwork?

I start mood boarding, I take a lot of images and find the common elements, colors, and themes. Then I sort through that information and start my creation.

I work from my own original photographs I take while out and about and especially while traveling. Working with my own images obviously creates its own uniqueness and within those parameters is where the wild fun begins in the pairing of sometimes two photos, other times more, layering them, painting and at times twisting them, manipulating the art until my eyes are satisfied.

For example, there was a summer I had a project that involved drawing many types of flowers. I spent a lot of time photographing and doing studies of real flowers. The project turned out even better than it would have, had I not put in the time and effort. To this day I'm able to integrate the skills I improved on during that project into future drawings.
