It is important to understand why certain decisions were taken and choices were made. The discussions, events, workshops majorly talk about the whats e.g. what architectural pattern was chosen, which infrastructure components were finalized. Major books and certification courses help getting a broad idea about multiple architectural patterns and their internals etc. But knowing what to choose when is the key. While going through all these sessions or whitepapers, one should know what the requirement was and then should identify how it was narrowed down to the final design or components. This fundamental knowledge of what not to use where, essentially leads to designing a near to ideal system squaring off all trade-offs and constraints.
