How do you keep your mobile devices running longer?

My recommendations: ??Turn off the Always on Display (AOD) ??Charge Battery using the adaptive mode availabe both in Android and iOS ??When away from WiFi, Turn on data only when required ??Power saver modes also help when you need more battery life

Specifically for iPhone 1. disable location services 2. Make sure you always update the software on your phone 3. Protect your battery by not charging it when ambient temperature of high 4. Cellular data is more power hungry compared to Wifi .

One can also adjust screen display to dark mode instead of the normal white background. You can also tweak your Network settings to dual or auto network 5g or 3G LTE so your phone will camp-on to the stronger available signal in the area

The question is too general to get a solid helpful response. You will learn more if you describe the device, how it will be used and the environment it will operate in. Context will be helpful to know whether you need a bar code scanner, RFID reader, printer or other peripheral, of if this is just a mobile phone app running a simple app. What’s it connect to? How many times a day? Are you directly connected to a host app, are you running a mobile app, or are you using a browser connection? Is the operator in bright sunlight or dark warehouse? What are your expectations and how did you arrive at them. Without a more defined question your answers will be too generic beyond some simple setting changes to be helpful. so much more data needed

On top of the points already listed, I’d add: regularly restarting your device; looking after your device battery by only using AC power to charge it and avoiding all use of battery banks; and, choosing 4G LTE over 5G (3G too slow so poor user experience) .

I would also recommend following: - Avoid using equipment (E.G., charging tools) by other vendors than your phone manifacturer: compatibility is not proven and, worst case, accessories might damage your phone on the long run. - Ensure that your mobile screen is protected with tempered glass materials: while standard screen protection can dim the brightness of your screen and is more sensitive to scratches or drop damages, tempered glass protectors are much more durable and robust. PS: you should apply a screen protection film directly on your screen, even if you already have a robust case -your phone might drop while the case lid is open!

Other key things to do - switch off location unless absolutely necessary, wi-fi through the night, move to mobile data saver and night display mode. For the longer life of the device, my simplest solution has been to invest in a solid industry-strength device guard. For my Android, a $5 guard made of hard recycled plastic is perfect - it guards the phone from most common falls or drops and if the guard wears off you can replace it every year. The screen guard is another low cost protection - I was shocked at how many scratches the screen guard had picked up and saved the original screen. But the biggest protection comes from: weekly organic cleaning of microphone (high germ density) and locateyourdevice feature from Google. Dont miss!

In android, there is a power saving mode that can be selected. When in known poor coverage - put your phone into airplane mode.

Power saving mode is helpful but if you are running video apps and multiplayer gaming -unlikely you will save much. Keeping your phone not exposed to sun light is most helpful or leaving in the car on dashboard. Car dashboard is an open sign to the world that you are careless and negligent. Not only are you inviting thieves but also opening yourself to hackers - your data, private info, and life itself.

This replacement of battery situation is a bit rare I think - hardly ever happens on Android phones. Mostly Android phones in the $350 and above last about 3 years on an average and run on the original battery. Also most of these phones batteries are permanent fixtures -with zero replacement chances. The reason you want to change, is that they have gotten slower, or heating up, or just broken hardware - device, edge chipped off and so on.

Interesting statement, I would have thought it would be the other way around. If you take a picture on your phone for instance, if a picture is stored on the phone itself without uploading the picture to the cloud then you would save battery, since your not using additional power that's required to upload or download the picture to the cloud via a data session which equals additional power usage. Am I wrong in my assumption?

There are numerous smartphone applications running in the background that consume a lot of power. Many of these applications are not necessary or not used on continuous basis by the user. Disabling or shutting down these applications when not in use, will help preserve battery power and certainly extend the life of the device.

It is best to leave your cell phone on you when you are going to eat, when you are going to exercise or simply when you are going to spend time with the family. Away from children of course. I worked in telecommunications for over a decade & used to recommend numerous ways to keep mobile devices running longer, specifically Apple handsets. As an iPhone user myself, I predominantly based my advice from an Apple device perspective, but there is no reason that these points cannot be researched & tested on other devices: -Charge the (Apple) device in "Airplane" mode & your device will charge battery quicker. -Turn on "Optimised Battery Charging" - Go to Settings>Battery>Battery Health & Charging to find it; it helps reduce battery aging. -Turn off "Location Services" for all or most apps; this is draining your battery whilst on. -Use "Low Battery Mode". You can add this to the "Control Centre" in "Settings" for quick access.

First aid in case of water damage. In case your mobile drops into water and is not waterproof, success chances to recover your device from water damages are not high, but there is still something you can do: - Ensure that the mobile is disconnected from any eletticity source (E.G., through charging tools). - Turn your mobile off. - Allow for the dump to evaporate from inside the phone before switching on. This can take 24 hrs or longer. PS: Some say that covering the phone with rice might help this process, although this is not scientifically proven. - Bring the device to your local assistance centre for check/repair. If you want to avoid the above, please, consider contracting a mobile phone insurance including water damage coverage.

Update Software: Keep your device's operating system and apps up to date. Manufacturers release updates to improve performance, security, and stability. Manage App Usage: Close background apps that you're not actively using, as they can drain your battery and use system resources. Some apps also continue to run in the background even after you exit them, so it's a good idea to periodically check and close them. Reduce Screen Brightness: Lower your screen brightness or enable auto-brightness to conserve battery life. A dimmer screen will also reduce wear and tear on your display.
