Electrical CAD tools these days come with necessary controls for keeping such things at bay. However, here are a few things designers can do. 1. Keep auto time stamp for last edited on title block turned on. 2. Keep netlist and BOM count checksum in a separate file. 3. Stick to the company specific naming convention and file code convention. 4. Use tools like Windchill and share/receive files from only there from co-designers. This is similar to Git control for software designers. So, a local PC corrupted CAD will not creep into crucial business systems.

When BIM came out, I thought AutoCAD would be gone - but here we are! A common and suggested way to preserve old files is to convert it to PDF, but when you need to convert it back to AutoCAD for some modifications, the results are not as good as expected. Therefore, I believe that the AutoCAD environment should help in the way of transferring files to the BIM in order to save effort and time.
