A strong foundational understanding and the ability to critically assess your results is key: 1) Deep Understanding of Fundamentals: Knowing the basics of fluid dynamics, such as potential flow theory, boundary layer theory, and turbulence modeling. 2) Handbook Methods and Low-Fidelity Tools: Familiarity with classical handbook methods and low-fidelity tools is indispensable. These methods often provide quick checks and estimates that can be used to validate more complex CFD results. 3) Judging CFD Results: Having means to judge the accuracy and reliability of CFD simulations, like understanding the limits of individual methods.
