1 Define global citizenship

Foster this skill by challenging your students to question and investigate the causes and consequences of environmental issues, and the responsibilities of different actors, such as governments, corporations, NGOs, or individuals. Case studies, debates, or simulations can also help your students examine the ethical and moral dimensions of environmental dilemmas, and to consider alternative solutions and scenarios.

Our Future We Want, #carbonliteracy #bananasgame based on the popular science book 'How Bad are Bananas?' by Professor Mike Berners-Lee encourages critical thinking in players by getting them to work out the life cycle of different items before guessing what their #carbonfootprints might be. Part of this is to explore where in the world items are made and to challenge in particular the narrative that China is the problem when it produces most of the goods that the rest of the world demands. Getting students to explore these issues through Q&A and an open discussion, is a good way for them to see the complexity of blaming carbon emissions on one part of the globe (i.e. China) when they are driven by us all especially the US and Europe.

Empower your students to take action in local and global efforts to address environmental challenges by providing your students with opportunities and tools to express their opinions, ideas, and collaborate with others. Guide your students to identify and plan actions they can take in their own lives to contribute to environmental sustainability and social justice.
