Isn’t leadership all about learning and growth? I don’t think you can be a transformational and servant leader if you aren’t finding each team member’s strength and letting them teach you, giving them the freedom to hone other skills that they find valuable and intriguing, and listening to how that whole forest syncs together or what areas need help. A leader who learn is a leader that is transparent with their mistakes and shows their team a plan and accountability for improvement; and also their victories and teaches their team how to achieve those victories and celebrates when team members are promoted even past them because they are using the past, present, & future to be a change agent.

Seek mentorship and then encourage others to do the same. We don’t know everything right? If you don’t invite new people to the table to share even including your students, how can we teach? Teams have to have ownership. Leaders have to want their team to exceed past them, get promoted past them because they understand that seeing a cultural transformation and sustainability is far more valuable and fulfilling than any position can give them.

The sixth step to incorporate learning and growth into your leadership style is to reflect and celebrate. Reflecting and celebrating means reviewing, evaluating, and acknowledging the progress and outcomes of your learning and growth journey. You can reflect and celebrate by keeping a learning journal, by conducting regular reviews and debriefs, by collecting and analyzing data and evidence, by celebrating your successes and lessons learned, and by revising and updating your goals and plans.
