At Make UK we run bespoke events to test emergency plans. We've written simulation scenarios for lots of global organisations, from the standard crane collapse, to scenarios around terrorist threats & severe weather events. The greatest takeaway I can share is that the only way to find out how your plans & your staff perform is to realistically test them. It's an uncomfortable situation for us all to be in, but better to get it wrong in a test than real-life. How people & systems behave in the heat of battle is different from what they "say" they will do during an audit. Don't be frightened by costs, use your own staff instead of actors & convince local emergency services to get involved by promoting the learning opportunity for them too.
