1 What is adult learning theory?

Adult learning theory also suggests that adults have different preferences for how they receive, process, and retain information, which are often referred to as learning styles.

2 What are the common learning styles?

There are many models and frameworks that describe different learning styles, but one of the most widely used and researched is the VARK model, developed by Neil Fleming. According to the VARK model, there are four main learning styles: visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic. Visual learners prefer to see information in graphs, charts, diagrams, or images. Auditory learners prefer to hear information in lectures, podcasts, discussions, or audio recordings. Reading/writing learners prefer to read and write information in texts, notes, books, or online sources. Kinesthetic learners prefer to learn by doing, touching, moving, or experiencing things.

This model was once VAKT, visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile. I also add I for intuitive learners who feel internally [not by touch] what is right for them in terms of learning.

I incorporate as many styles of learning into my training as possible. The more senses engaged in the process the greater the rentention of the concept. Recently, I created a video book to accompany an ebook on vision planning. This takes learning one step further than the audio book format. I've recieved lots of feedback from providing a follow along format.

It is likely that your audience will have a mix of different learning styles, so you need to balance your training methods and materials to cater to everyone. You can do that by using a variety of formats and media, such as combining visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic elements in your presentation, activities, and resources. You can also use different techniques to appeal to different senses, such as color, sound, movement, or emotion.
