This is so that you can identify what are the key next steps and prevent you from investigating in the wrong direction from the start.

- In my experience it is very important to stay organized from the second it becomes clear that you are dealing with an escalation/influx/emergency. Even before you have time to identify the problem, you and your team should be taking notes or marking items with tags to group and organize all incoming tickets. This is key! This will help identify any themes in the occurrences (especially if you are dealing with more that one problem at the same time). This would prove it's worth at the end when you are able to respond to clients more effectively using these groups/tags. This definitely forms part of the above note to "document the problem and communicate it to the stakeholders...".

- In my experience, it is easy to assume that because you are receiving many similar tickets during an influx/escalation period that, all of those tickets are related and caused by the same issue. It is important to always take a minute to read each case and make sure you are not dealing with additional problems that should be reported and handled separately.
