How do you get feedback on copywriting?

A client brief or discovery call will help you clarify the project's goals and target audience. Hearing from the customer is invaluable because they're speaking to their pain points, needs, and desires in their words. Your can get this info from: *Speaking with customers *Speaking with customer-facing team members *Reviewing customer survey results, online reviews, and social media posts *Speaking with those who chose not to become customers The better you know your target audience, the clearer you'll be about how you can achieve your project's goals.

Your audience speaks a common language, be it their problems, doubts and insecurities, desires, or goals. Look for forums or comments from them. If it's a product, read the reviews and testimonials. Find the common motifs and themes, identify with your audience. Then you can properly address their needs with language they relate to. This is where you find your product's true USP.

Understanding where and how the copy will be used is also important. Will this copy appear in a digital newsletter, be emailed to leads, printed out, or appear in an industry publication as an op-ed piece for some earned media?

In my experience there are two ways to best discover the pain points, needs and desires of your target audience. SURVEY. Nowadays, it's not difficult to survey the public you are going to be writing copy to. Ask the right questions and the survey results will give you the exact buttons you need. Of course, you need to learn how to construct a survey with the right questions. TALK TO SALESPEOPLE. If the company you're writing copy for have successful salespeople, talk to them about the customer's pain points, etc. I've written copy for companies where all I had to do was spend 20 minutes talking to the top salesperson to learn everything I needed to know to write compelling copy. I only needed to add the fire to what I'd been told.

Choosing feedback loops is important rather crucial. Who's invested in the piece I am writing, who are the stakeholders? Who am I writing this for? Who can help me better this particular content? Ask these questions to yourself and you'll know who to seek feedback from. It can be your - clients/Target market. - industry experts. - peers. Always ask your clients, peers, even yourself: is the point I trying to make clear enough. Are people finding value in this post. Does it have clarity. And after asking these specific questions you'll receive answers pin pointing to one direction, making your content more engaging and fun to read.

You could be simply picking your client's brain and the end result would be zero. Asking the right and specific question is important. If I want to know if the CTA actually makes people want to stop and perform the task. Ask that specific question. Ask questions with a laser focus.

I'd suggest to limit the number of sources you gather feedback from. Find the more relevant channels and make use of those. Ideally, avoid collecting criticism from those outside of your sphere of expertise.
