When building About Fraud, A Global Community for Fraud Fighters, it was super important to provide insight and content that was authentic. My personal work in fraud prevention had to be felt in every post/article/etc. The audience needed to feel that, at the core of the content, is a fraud fighter just like them. That I had felt their challenges, walked there walk... and then they would open up to hear me talk my talk. The best way to grow your blog/newsletter/social media presence is to leave it. If you want to build a following, a network on social media, you have to first engage with others. Doing so will increase the chances of them engaging BACK with you. Think about your own experiences using social media: when you post something on Facebook or Twitter/X or Reddit and someone replies and says “hey that’s a great idea!”, how do you react? You likely respond and thank them, right? You may even follow them as a result, or go back to their social media account and comment on something they posted. The point is, if you want others to engage with you, engage with them first and see what happens.
