How do you foster a culture of learning and innovation among your global talent pool?

Building a culture of learning and innovation in a global team involves aligning these initiatives with strategic goals. It's essential to identify the key skills and behaviors needed for success and create programs to support them. Clear communication about the importance of learning and innovation, and how they contribute to competitive advantage, is crucial. In my experience, one of the biggest challenges is overcoming resistance to change. Encouraging a mindset where team members feel safe to experiment and fail is vital. Sharing real-life success stories and celebrating small wins can help build this culture.

In project management, they say that quality should be built in not inspected. The same with learning. The organization’s learning goal should be integrated or ‘built in’ the corporate strategy. Your human capital is your most important commodity. If your workforce does not have an updated skillset then your business will lose market share and competitive advantage.

Most of all it is by EXAMPLE. YOU MUST LEAD BY EXAMPLE. ITS NOT ALL ABOUT PROFIT IF PROFIT MAKES YOU DISENFRANCHISE THOSE WHOM YOU SERVE AND ALSO THOSE WHO SERVE YOU.

I make sure everyone understands how their growth ties into our overall objectives. This alignment drives motivation and innovation. I implement continuous learning opportunities, like online courses and webinars, which allow our team to grow and apply new skills. Encouraging collaboration across regions is key; diverse perspectives spark creativity. Digital platforms help us connect and share ideas globally. Recognizing and rewarding innovation is crucial. Celebrating successes and learning from failures keeps the team motivated and focused on innovation.

It works very well for me to set daily learning goals, at least one new course every day, this keeps me updated and I can apply it in my work and even daily life. How do i do it? Well, there is a great tool like LinkedIn learning where you have many courses of interest and which you can develop a learning plan that you can develop a career plan in a specific area. Most courses have practical exercises so that you can include them in your daily tasks, and I also see them as a great opportunity to develop yourself in new areas that you have not had any experience with. You can explore new careers that open new paths for you, we are all capable of adapting, it is up to us to take action and implement them.

I would celebrate the workers’ outside professional accomplishments. For instance, if they’ve received a regional chapter award from a professional organization, highlight that in the company’s newsletter. That would motivate your employees to learn more on their own. Some of these professional associations have workshop giving continuing education units. I am a Project Management Professional (PMP) and we must acquire 60 professional development units (PDUs) to maintain my certification. Being mentioned in the company’s newsletter would empower your employees to acquire transferable skills that they can bring into the company.

No hay nada mejor que una empresa invierta en sus empleados con la educación, los entrenamientos se han vuelto hoy en día más que necesarios. Es un win-win de la empresa con sus colaboradores y se vuelve aún más motivaciónal si las empresas pueden crear un plan de desarrollo interno que motive a los colaboradores a crecer más y tener un mejor futuro en la organización. Hoy en día existen paquetes empresariales que facilita los entrenamientos a sus colaboradores, creo que no existe excusa alguna la promoción del talento internos en las empresas.

In my experience, implementing tools that track and analyze the effectiveness of these programs is crucial. This not only highlights what's working but also uncovers areas needing improvement. A challenge can be ensuring everyone feels comfortable with new technologies. Offering support and training can help ease this transition. Additionally, sharing success stories of how data-driven insights led to innovation can inspire and motivate the team. Ultimately, using technology and data effectively creates a dynamic environment where learning and innovation thrive.

Management should meet with the human resources and training department quarterly to evaluate market trends and see if their current training align with these trends. If not, management should provide the training department with the available funds to pay for this training. The training department should also ditch training that is obsolete because that costs money. A business is only as good as its workers.

The big question is: how can I apply what I have learned in my company? First analyze the vision and mission of our company, where we want to go. Second, adapt your new knowledge in continuous improvement processes and in your daily tasks. Ask yourself, how can we improve the current processes? make them more dynamic and practical, etc.
