To keep it interesting I think the best way to push yourself is to pick a subject. As an example if I was to pick texture (and I have done this), I would shoot a whole 36 exposure roll on that subject. And seek it out. When I can't find the "prompt" or subject on the street or any other location, I then create the image in my studio with an item that has the element of texture. I then turn to my knowlege of lighting, previsualizing the final print. Very important to previsualize the finished print when shooting the original subject. Other than incorporating the basic use of print dodging, burning, contrast control and dust spotting my prints, I never retouch them.
