Make sure to take time for yourself to have a clear vision of what kind of support you're going after in order to know where to look both online and offline. One thing that I've found really helpful in my creative path, is to research Youtube channels of freelance creatives who share all the nooks and crannies around their industry and freelance discipline. Within, you'll find all sorts of tips for both your skillset as well as your creative discipline.

Despite the clear fact that social media gave us an amazing opportunity to be able to network with people all around the globe, and learn under credible, valuable sources, it is always refreshing to attend an in-person event of your industry where you'll be able to get first hand experience in learning by creative professionals all while being able to network with like minded artists like yourself, never miss a chance to be an active contributor to your local community.

Once you have identified some potential networks and mentors, you need to reach out and build relationships with them. Over the years I've found it very rewarding to find ways in which I can collaborate with other creative folks outside of client centred commercial projects. One way to do this can be to organize a gallery (or other event space) based group show. Its a great idea to organize around a central theme and perhaps even orchestrate mash-ups between different illustrators/artists/designers.

I write them (if I can find them and I try hard) and ask them how they did something that I admire. 90% of the time they are happy to share. The other 10%, don't waste one breath on them.
