You must not only know your own product but you absolutely must know the market and keep a close eye on new to market products similar to yours.

Absolutely, product knowledge is fundamental in retail sales. Being well-versed in the details, features, and benefits of your products allows you to confidently assist customers, address their inquiries, and make personalized recommendations. This expertise not only builds trust and credibility but also enhances the overall customer experience, increasing the likelihood of successful sales and repeat business.

In my sales journey, I discovered that Self and Product Confidence is definitely required to finding the best retail sales technique as there will always be competition in one way or another but this can't be achieved without adequate product knowledge. So in summary it is required to have; 1. Adequate Product Knowledge 2. Self Confidence 3. Product Confidence Lastly, gain insight on your market terrain and your product competitive advantages.

It's the old saying you have two ears and one mouth. Use them accordingly. A customer comes in wants product X you don't have it but you know something that's pretty close. Knowledge is everything. Know your range where it is. The way the consumer works now they are always in a rush and have no time. Everything has to be instant. In any sales role, you need to be an expert on your product. In retail sales, though, all that knowledge isn't very helpful unless you can also communicate it clearly to someone who might have no background in the field. In my experience in retail tile sales, this meant that often I was answering the question "Why is grout necessary?" before being able to effectively explain why my brand of grout was a good choice. The ability to introduce your client to the industry as a whole helps them to feel comfortable asking basic questions, which in turn builds trust, allowing you to present your product in a meaningful way.

Key to retail sales is listening. VoC - Voice of Customer is as essential as the offering. This guides your sales. Often times, feedback is fed into product development but feed forward is equally key. A dip-stick research with a select group of target market can inform what the larger group desires in a product. Understand your customerbase. The act of selling itself needn't be coercive but persuasive. Sales doesn't end with product parted. After sales care defines whether you'll get a repeat buyer- retention or one that exacerbates bad experiences. The product desires to meet a need and thus, when you drive the key features of your product to align with the peculiar needs of the customer, the decision to commit to a purchase is enhanced.

For me, keeping it personal and collaborative is key. Clients shouldn’t feel pushed one way or another, or to spend a certain amount, but instead help to educate them on your expertise, share your passion, and enthuse them with what you can do! When working with clients in the luxury bathroom market, I often say we are working together to find the perfect balance for them across budget, design and product. I encourage clients to feel safe enough to share with me an honest budget they are happy with and then work though options to show them what is available to them - ultimately keeping the final decisions and choices to them. Most of all, be personable. Don’t try too hard to make a sale; focus on the best experience for the client.

I believe asking certain questions and then listening is the key. Listen to your customer, what they want and what they enthuse over. I avoid the hard sales and just have a simple conversation allowing them to get to know you and trust you.

If you are not honest with yourself and your client, this particular issue of tracking personal metrics in order to improve sales, serves nothing more than anxiety, aggravation and likely lead to deceit. Low sales is not a way to measure success, happy and satisfied clients and employees, is.

Know the difference between your product variant, and the competitors, in some cases, models are not quite the same. Know how to show value between yourself and the competition, and remember that "A good deal occurs, only when both parties benefit." Also that ,"Better" is a dangerous word, while "Different" applies best. If you think something is better, and I do not, then chances are that it's a "no sale" situation. Find the niche that fits the sale.

Let the client sell themselves, just provide proper and concise information, and keep in mind the "W7" principal, to all statements and questions you get. W7 = Who, What, Where, When, Why, Which, How"

Feedbacks are so important in modification of sales technique for exponential growth. Without feedbacks, one can't know the performance level and where the necessary adjustments should take place. At the end of the day, the use of data from feedbacks can greatly impact on our stability and sustainability.

Know how to give feedback, to get more help from co-workers and managers and even company Headquarters if need be, remember there is no "I" in TEAM !.., and you're not Batman, or Wonder Woman..,yet.

Concentrate on making clients happy, go out of your way, to match on-line prices, provided they are within appropriate guidelines. Pick up that piece of paper.., dust a bit here and there, people do see it, and appreciate the effort.
