BABOK, or Business Analysis Body of Knowledge, is a guide that outlines the best practices, techniques, and competencies for business analysis. It consists of six knowledge areas, which are the main domains of business analysis work. Each knowledge area covers tasks, inputs, outputs, and techniques that are relevant for a specific aspect of business analysis. These knowledge areas include Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring, Elicitation and Collaboration, Requirements Life Cycle Management, Strategy Analysis, Requirements Analysis and Design Definition, and Solution Evaluation. Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring focuses on how to plan, organize, and monitor the business analysis activities and deliverables throughout the project lifecycle. Elicitation and Collaboration focuses on how to elicit, manage, and communicate the requirements and other information from the stakeholders, and how to collaborate with them effectively. Requirements Life Cycle Management focuses on how to trace, prioritize, approve, and change the requirements and other deliverables, and how to ensure their alignment with the project objectives and scope. Strategy Analysis focuses on how to analyze the current state and the desired future state of the organization or the business domain, and how to identify and evaluate the opportunities, risks, and solutions that can bridge the gap. Requirements Analysis and Design Definition focuses on how to specify, model, verify, and validate the requirements and other deliverables, and how to design the solution that meets the needs and expectations of the stakeholders. Finally, Solution Evaluation focuses on how to measure, assess, and optimize the performance and value of the solution, and how to identify and address the issues and changes that may arise after implementation.
