For example, you might want to increase your productivity, security or scalability. Or you might want to learn a new skill, explore a new paradigm, or simply have some fun.

The question has the wrong starting point. Don't look for tools and frameworks. Focus on defining and solving the problem. If a tool or framework may help solve the problem, dig into it a little deeper to make sure it solves more problems than it creates.

Diving into every new framework that comes out isn’t entirely the best practice, I would suggest you get two or three frameworks and get really good at it

I don't work on teams anymore. I'm an independent contractor developer of hardware and software. I don't care to evaluate any new third party anything unless it's a kit for specific hardware, and even then require their source code.

I recommend that any new tool or framework meet at least one of the following criteria, as evaluated by the current development team: Ease of use – There is a consensus that tool A.N or tool Q is easier to use/learn/train others on than the current tool A. Capability – The tool provides a previously unavailable significant capability, or multiple lesser capabilities. Cost – Cheaper, in terms of licensing, support, infrastructure requirements, or talent acquisition. Support – Could be from a more responsive vendor or a larger/more engaged community. Staffing – It is easier to hire people to work with the tool either due to the volume of those skilled with the tool, or the popularity of the tool itself. Longevity – See the Lindy Effect

I agree with Quint. Make sure you understand the problem/opportunity that you need to address before selecting tools and frameworks. Don’t go out shopping for the best hammer and nails when what you need to do is bake a cake.

I find its helpful to engage with your field-- your network, conferences, platform newsletters etc-- and see what is actually getting adopted. This is different than just seeing hype on social media. By talking to them you can understanding in implementing X over Y, and also gain insight on what this technology is like in action rather than just on paper or a sandbox.

You can also experiment with different scenarios, use cases, or challenges that are relevant to your goals and criteria. For example, you can try to implement a common functionality, integrate with another tool or framework, or simulate a real-world situation.

Challanges likely to be encountered while planning Depending on the user base and the number of dependent systems, you will need to weigh the time necessary for a big bang adoption versus the existing feature backlog and the likelihood of necessary maintenance to production systems. Choosing a phased approach you may encounter the need to rework early adopters based on what you learn updating subsequent applications or processes. Choosing to use the new tool only for new projects can lead to FOMO in existing teams and future maintenance challenges as the old tooling is phased out. Those challenges show up in decreasing skillset, community support, and team motivation. Acknowledging the tradeoffs among approaches smooths the transition.

Adopting a new tool or framework is not a one-time event, but a continuous process of learning and improving. You should always keep yourself updated on the latest developments, features, or best practices of the tool or framework. Seek feedback, advice, or help from other users, developers, or experts on the tool or framework. In addition to seeking feedback on your own practices adopting the tool or framework, you should share your experiences. Even if limited to your own organization, sharing what you have learned will benefit all. Teams will get a better understanding of the tool and you will deepen your own grasp of it. There is nothing like explaining something to others to expose gaps in your knowledge. Additionally, involving others in discussion may increase their feelings of engagement and ownership of the platform. I believe the above is especially important in the context of open source. The community is most often what determines the functional life of the tool. To ensure longevity input should come from many practitioners.
