How do you establish credibility and authority as an instructor without being intimidating or arrogant?

By helping students realize they don't know. Most of the time, students think they know a lot about the subject and if you make things too easy to understand, they think they knew it before you explain it. So I ask questions, I start debates, and I expose the level of knowledge they have. Then, I start the course, using their words, correcting what was wrong and highlighting what was right. My main goal is not to show I'm an expert, it's to be sure they learn and they understand they learn something today

Aside from good lesson prep, a passion for the subject taught, and care for the learners is key. That will get your attention as well as their respect. Give before you expect to receive.

To earn respect, you need to be approachable and receptive. One of many techniques I learned from Dale Carnegie's golden rules, "Don't criticize, condemn or complain. Give honest, sincere appreciation. Help others feel important, and do it sincerely. Become genuinely interested in other people..."

Pour moi, le métier d’éducateur, enseignant ou formateur est basé sur le respect que tu portes pour ton audience. Quand tu respectes ton audience ton contenu est qualitatif car tu as pris le temps de préparer avec soin, d’innover dans ta fa?on de le storyteller, de créer des passerelles entre eux et toi de fa?on harmonieuse. Et quand tu respectes ton audience elle te respecte en retour automatiquement . Quand tu es un bon professeur, tu Co-crées avec tes étudiants, tu les impressionnes et tu te laisse impressionner par eux. Tout est dans le charisme, la connaissance, l’échange mais surtout le respect !

Teaching and Leading are all about growing others. If your not about the good of your people, if you don't in some way really love them, then you are a just clanging gong and a banging cymbal. You might have all the knowledge in the world but if you don't care, they will see it and respond in kind. Teddy Roosevelt said it best. People don't care how much you know til they know how much you care. True influence that leads to positive change is fundamentally based in love, love of your people and love of your subject. When you have these, people will listen to you every time.

En mi trabajo, me toca dirigir expertos más expdrtos que yo, y eso me enriquece. Mis equipos hacen que el trabajo no de trabajo, solo me toca la satisfacción de guiarlos, con humildad, firmeza y desde dentro mismo del equipo, hacia un objetivo. No me enamoro de mi cargo, porque eso es ego, no me seducen mis poderes, porque eso es arrogancia. Mi objetivo es ser un recipiente vació, vacuidad compasiva, mis equipos lo llenan...yo los contengo.

Essa etapa é a que eu considero sendo a mais importante, pois entendendo e se comunicando de maneira mais personalizada com o aluno a rela??o se torna mais sólida e duradoura.

Acredito que falar de forma leve e descontraída traz seguran?a e confiabilidade. Quando se tem domínio de um assunto e tem paix?o por aquilo que faz, desbravar sobre o tema é natural. A maioria de instrutores se preocupam com o conteúdo programático e esquecem que quem está ali do outro lado para aprender também é um ser humano e que precisa de emo??es naturias para aprender. Ent?o, lidando com o aprendizado com uma forma prática e criativa o aluno desperta maior interesse e consegue prender a aten??o facilmente. Utilizo muito da técnica do diálogo fluido para compreender melhor que é meu instruído, para que eu possa ensiná-lo da maneira mais adequada.

Acredito que o processo de aprendizagem tem um peso muito grande em como a informa??o foi recebida e assimilada. Dessa forma, cabe ao instrutor alinhar o conhecimento que deseja orientar, com as necessidades, expectativas e realidades dos seus orientandos. A consciência desse perfil dos orientandos pode ser obtida pela pesquisa prévia das características do seu público e pela sensibilidade em perceber feedbacks n?o verbais durante a sua explana??o.

To win the audience without being arrogant, quickly demonstrate authority and credibility but then introduce humility. Don’t focus on your resume, focus on your relevance. Don’t focus on your wins that the audience can’t relate to, focus on your lessons that they can learn from. Mastery in facilitation comes from effective resonance with the audience, not from effective delivery of your ego.

Developing your own teaching style is like finding your signature dish as a chef. It's all about mixing your unique flavors. Find your voice: Are you more formal or casual? Fast-paced or slow and steady? Stick with what feels natural. Sprinkle in some humor and stories - they're like spices that make a lesson more interesting. Share anecdotes that give a glimpse of who you are beyond the instructor role. This personal touch can really connect with your learners. Remember, it's not just about the information you give; it's about how you deliver it. It's like your learners aren't just attending a class; they're experiencing your unique take on the subject, which can really boost your influence and charisma.

After introducing myself, I usually tell a story from my experience, pertinent to the subject, where I didn’t do well. It’s important to let people know that you’re just like them, sometimes you fail because you always try & you always learn from your mistakes. It works well & makes communication easier. People need to feel they aren’t sitting to a god, but to a more experienced human than themselves. Bragging about one’s success creates distance. Exposing vulnerability closes the gabs.

Hoy el reto no es construir respeto sino CONFIANZA. Necesitamos que las personas conecten con el instructor y también los unos con los otros. Esto no es un decreto sino que es un paso a paso que hay que construir desde el minuto cero en el que entramos a la sala y hasta que nos vamos. Presentaciones eternas, ponernos en un pedestal, hablar difícil son viejas prácticas que alejan y rompen la confianza. Somos importantes cuando entramos en un coro y no cuando somos el solista de la sala.

Nos conhecemos através dos outros, pois eles nos vêem melhor nestas circunstancias. Clearly established limits that allow safe connections between trainers and their participants; “Being with” participants, not becoming one of the participants; Being friendly, not friends; A clear understanding of the limits and responsibilities in your role as a trainer.

Continuously check for understanding. You may naturally find some people easier to communicate with which can be a positive tool to use to aid group learning. Consciously notice those who may not contribute as easily, where eye contact with a smile or a nod, can help to initiate this process. Note these interactions for candidate and self evaluation.

In my lectures, I consider the learners to be my equals and as professional as I am. I would make it amply clear that it is a sharing of ideas, experiences and concerns about which we may jointly find a way of dealing with. In today’s context the so called lecturing is more of a collaborative exploration of the topic rather than a monologue from one side.

Whatever is to be taught, the teacher must be close to its audience, but able to ask for some silence when needed, to point out an interesting question. I often ask them to arrive on time, not 5 or 10 minutes late. And very often, please, forget your smartphones during our course !

I stay open minded when delivering my sessions, I respect that there are people who know their duties more than myself, I mean… they do do it day in day out. I enjoy learning their reality. I like to build on motivating them to conduct their duties to the best of their ability and that really I am here to support and coach them around any changes, or updates to their role and remind them of the importance of their role. It’s good to be relaxed, to some extent. I believe you get the best out of people when we treat them as humans and not just an employee number, you connect better as a class which allows for good energy in your surroundings. ??

People say "It's not what you say, it's how you say it". I think its both. If you say it sexy but it wasn't worth saying, what have you got? Smoothly expressed Doo. At the same time if you have the best message in the world but deliver it poorly you have golden nothing that went nowhere. Cada vez es más importante que los asistentes a una formación practiquen desde el primer momento. No sólo porque la práctica es fundamental para el aprendizaje, sino porque también genera un ambiente distinto en la sesión: se genera más colaboración, empatía y sensación de equipo. Creo que debemos alejarnos cada vez más del formato de clase magistral, y buscar territorios dinámicos de colaboración y participación. Y eso se puede aplicar del mismo modo en las sesiones de formación presenciales como en las virtuales.

The trainer's results are assessed by constantly monitoring the trainees' performance. The aim of training is not only to acquire new skills, but also to consolidate existing ones. The seasoned trainer will have taken care to draw up a set of specifications which he can modify according to the progress made by the group in his charge. The trainer validates the various stages of the training program, taking care to provide regular reminders of the autonomy being sought.

You might have all the knowledge, you might have all the love for your subject and your students, but if you are unprofessional, if you don't do your job so as to build your people up (constructive feedback, recognition, and reinforcement), if your instruction and evaluation lack structure like a man without a skeleton, then your class will be a well meaning, intelligent, and loving blob that doesn't get anyone anywhere. We are here to build people! You can't do that without an armature.

Em sala de aula é importante compartilhar com a turma os bons resultados de outros alunos do Instrutor. Isso pode ser inspirador e estimulante. O Instrutor além de capacitar o aluno, precisa acompanhar o resultado do aluno pós-treinamento e fornecer um feedback construtivo e se colocar à disposi??o para eventuais dúvidas.

One thing that I love about education, is that everyone learns - even the one who is teaching. Understanding the people in a learning group and providing them with time, space and opportunities to share their own real-life experience of situations and scenarios that are relatable to their peers, has multiple benefits. It empowers that person, giving them the opportunity to take the floor and '...become the teacher'. It also makes the conversation more inviting and accessible to everyone - helping to reduce the one sided nature of traditional teaching. In addition, it increases the level of engagement and connection across the group which is good for everyone and ultimately leads to a better learning outcome.

Instructors are story tellers. I try and bring personal stories to the classroom with creative, real life topics from my own experience, that align with the content, build credibility from my own developmental path, to inspire, build interest and lend a human perspective to which the learners can relate.

It's fun to see how I essentially disagree with a lot of what is written here (at least what a random AI has probably generated on the left). Students appreciate when they can see that you are here for them and that you are trying to teach them something because you think this is important for them. The rest does not need to be perfect as long as they are convinced you are trying. They will be grateful. After that, of course it is better to know your subject, but that is not even the most important thing, quite paradoxically. Some teachers won't admit they don't know because they think they will loose the respect of their student. That is just wrong.

- Credibility - sell your credentials and experiences. Treat it in a similar way you woukd to the 'Tell me about yourself' question in an interview. Also as your presentation goes on ensure your content is impeccable and that it supports all that was said about you earlier. Authority - Good posture and body language, make eye contact and speak with confidence, fluently and in a distinct tone. Preparation- to do all the above ensure you are prepared. Anticipate questions and be ready to answer the questions of your class / attendees.

Never forget you’ve been in the seat of the student! Remember every good and bad instructor you’ve ever had, and find all the things from the best to give to your students. Remembering how it made you feel when you had someone with a harder delivery style… You aren’t smarter then your students, you’ve just been lucky enough to learn this information before.?? sharing your personal knowledge and experience isn’t a power trip, and you’ll get the best from your class if you are approachable and welcoming of their input.
