I get the impression that as DFM is implemented in today's newly minted facilities, some who are budgeting these activities want to implement new processes with zero margins or reserves for cost over runs due to unvalidated or incomplete assumptions, non-disclosed or unforeseen materials variations. In addition, follow-on maintenance, modifications and upkeep are underfunded, with a "well,.... we will see how it works first" attitude. If the implementation team does not have the resources to learn from a DFM "miss" and fix it the first time, in real-time, as it is discovered, issues get buried, only to surface later, resulting in quality and/or reliability issues, resulting in costly customer claims and warranty work.
