I think people can get caught up in getting the tools just right, and that can get in the way of evaluating content. In my last site migration, I used an Excel spreadsheet and color-coded content based on update and migration priority. We looked at page rank, visits, and relevance to current initiatives to decide what to update. My best advice would be this: Don't skip the content audit step, but don't overcomplicate it, either.

My recommendation is three fold: 1. Keep the audience and their needs, right from the scoping phase. 2. Approach content migration with an iterative, product dev mindset, where you include customer feedback in each sprint. 3. Conduct final QA by opening up the new platform and final content to a percentage of users. This will surface any ui/ux, including discoverability, challenges of the migration that may have been overlooked.
