In my experience before using any of the defect management tool all team members should come up with the common best practices to follow to avoid mistakes in future. If we have workflow documented with all of the basic information required to add a defect on shared location then all team members can easily access it whenever it’s necessary. A valid bug with all of the required information with correct assignment can be resolved early. This saves time and effort of entire team if everyone follows the same pattern.

2 Follow best practices for writing bug reports

Writing a good bug report is essential for developers to reproduce, diagnose, and fix the bug. To do this effectively, use a descriptive and concise title to summarize the bug. Include the steps to reproduce the bug and the expected and actual results. Attach screenshots, videos, logs, or other relevant files that illustrate the bug. Also, specify the environment, device, browser, or software version where the bug occurs. Assign a category, priority, and severity to the bug based on predefined criteria. Avoid using subjective or emotional language like "annoying" or "urgent." Before creating a new one, check for existing or similar bugs. Finally, update the bug status and comment on any changes or progress.

Defect should contain short summary. detail steps. software version ,environment. If you’re using some specific interface then add that details too. Mention the test case details which is failing due to the defect. Also you can add video or screen capture to support your findings in case defect is found during some exploratory testing. Assignments of the defect also plays important role in reducing the defect fixing time so make sure that defect is assigned to correct assignee. Also check for the duplicate. keep an eye on recent updates from team members in case they need any additional information. And last but not the least make sure that defect is closed with valid comments with all relevant information in case of defect closure.
