How do you enhance your leadership in manufacturing operations?

The development of a clear vision and strategy help you and your team create purpose in the day to day work. While it is great for a leader to have the vision defined for the team, you can supercharge the result when the team develops the vision and strategy together. This enables the team to buy-in right away and work relentlessly towards the pursuit of the objectives. The leader should have an idea of what they hope for the outcome and then use their ability to influence the direction. Never fully controlling the situation and ensuring the result is an organic are keys to success!

1. Keep focused on the goals to be achieved. 2. Continuous motivation to the team to execute first time right 3. Getting involved with the team to the shop floor level to make each one feel important 4. Cross functional team to be aligned with the common agenda and seamless communication

I focus on 3T everyday at manufacturing and operations- Tomorrow : build a vision, anticipate what is coming next, prepare for tomorrow. Team : recruit the best fit, develop team bonding, train them for tomorrow. Technology : use technology, IT, automation wherever possible.

As per my experience to enhance manufacturing leadership, one must develop technical and soft skills for effective team management. Gain a deep understanding of manufacturing processes and stay updated on industry trends. Set clear, measurable goals and ensure team alignment. Be a role model, communicate clearly, and encourage open communication. Foster a positive work environment, appreciate team contributions, and promote skill development. Improve problem-solving and decision-making. Embrace continuous improvement and involve the team. Efficiently manage time and prioritize safety and compliance. Adapt to challenges and learn from setbacks. Enhancing leadership is a Continuous process.

1. Don't get upset when things go wrong. You're in the printing industry, it's going to happen. 2. Be a solver not a revolver. Just correct any issues without criticism (read 1). 3. Be a guide not a boss. 4. Play "happy" music. (preferably dancing music) 5. Create an after work activity. (Bowling, Softball, or just have activities to involve the workers and family) 6. Recognition. Start an employee of the month. 7. Allow Personalization. Let employees put up pictures of family, etc..

Never forget to get on the "production floor" on daily basis, this make the vision and strategy connected to the people that are creating value. This allows to get feedbacks from the ground, listeining to the people, to confirm or not that your vision Is connected to the real needs of the factory

Here you need to be respectful in your members team's uniqueness in terms of personality, skills, way of thinking, beliefs, and motivations. Having in mind that each individual is unique and provides a meaningful experience in their job, this will help you to build a strong team based on respect, support and trust.

To be able to develop a strong team, you need to nurture them in a way that their weaknesses are exposed and they can experience challenging situations knowing that they have a strong support base if things may go South. Giving some degree of autonomous decision-making to subordinates is critical while keeping a close watch on the progress of operations so that situations don't grow from bad to worse. This balancing act is in itself an art that we can learn as we practice it more and more in our daily assignments and then we can extend it to long-term work packages. In this way, I have been trying to develop teams that are ready to embrace new challenges and responsibilities while keeping focus on the short & long-term objectives.

Integrity and trust are two things which make a team stronger. A leader need to allow his team to take decisions. Sometimes it may go wrong. But by doing so they will learn and grow. A good leader will give the credit to his team and take the responsibility for any errors

Building a strong Team is not a milestone building a hierarchy --> it is about how the Team works effectively in producing results. Sharing this as my journey of building a Team with different personality and different perspective, Respect really matters when driving a committed Team -->guidance starts from small things moving to bigger things. Coaching would be the next focus to enable them to explore the battlefield problems and handling issues. A piece of a wider view --> let them experience the actual scene of the operations and be a mentor when there's a situation that you are needed to move forward. Build a culture of achieving targets.

Maintain the Quality of Products. Survey the market conditions regularly. Always improve the products as per feedback and requirements.

Where there is no standard there can be no improvement. Create a standard and chip away at sustainability. You must create the mindset of never settling for current state. If it’s good it can be better if it’s better it can be great. Teach your team 6s, use it and enforce it. Teach DMAIC, use it anytime a problem arises. Teach Ishikawa fishbone diagrams. The more you teach the principles the more your team will be engrained in their processes and practices. Lastly, remember that CI is a journey but once it is understood and utilized, your team will be unstoppable.

I agree, involving employees who do the actual work is key to a continuous improvement culture. They are the ones doing the job daily and will usually have good ideas for improvement. As leaders, it is important for us to listen and acknowledge these opinions then ask good engaging questions to challenge them to “think outside the box”. Additionally, employees will need to learn and utilize lean tools in order for a culture of continuous improvement to be fostered and sustained long term.

What seems to be impossible some time can be made possible by "out of the box" thinking. You can break a big idea into small tasks and work on it

Only your Team knows what Is needed to get continuous improvement on daily basis: tiny small contributions from tens of collaborators will help you to create the big picture. Let your Team contribute to the big picture, facilitate the communication with specific and dedicated sharing stand up meetings on the production floor. As a Leader your in charge to elaborate them and manage the change.

My perspective on leveraging technology is to see it as a powerful tool for driving manufacturing operations forward. It involves staying updated with technological advancements, strategically adopting automation and data analytics, and ensuring technology aligns with operational goals to enhance efficiency, quality, and competitiveness.

In my experience, Leverage technology in manufacturing by implementing automation, robotics, IoT devices, and data analytics. Streamline processes, increase efficiency, and reduce costs by integrating these technologies into production, supply chain management, and quality control. Enhance decision-making with real-time insights and predictive analytics. Invest in training to ensure workforce readiness and maximize the benefits of technology adoption. By embracing technological advancements, manufacturers can stay competitive and meet the demands of the modern market.

Implement automated systems and robotics to streamline repetitive tasks, reduce errors and boost production efficiency. Utilize advanced analytics and AI-driven insights to optimize processes, predict maintenance needs and make data-informed decisions. Embrace the Internet of Things (IoT) to create interconnected systems, allowing real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance and remote management. Employ digital replicas of physical systems to simulate and analyze performance, enabling proactive adjustments and improvements. Utilize cloud-based platforms for data storage, collaboration, and accessibility, facilitating agile decision-making and scalability.

Technology driven talent is the need of the hour. Everything will become useless when it's not updated for technology.Technology makes hardwork into smart work and saves the energy of creative workforce

Leveraging is one of a tool of understanding your Team's capability. Adaptation is to align your Team's TSM level in terms of Customer requirement with the current Technology you have and have future state as your driving point moving to a BIC process and systems

Not updated knowledge is waste.Not updating the skill is a crime.Staying without upto date is an equivalent to death.Upskilling is required to keep us alive in the organization. Unskilled leaders will create stagnated organization which will become a disease to kill the organization

My perspective on nurturing skills and networking in manufacturing leadership is that continuous learning and building strong professional relationships are essential. Investing in personal development and expanding one's network can provide valuable insights, open doors to new opportunities, and contribute to becoming a more effective and influential leader in the industry.

Do your best to get engaged with any available education in your field. Seek out a leader or mentor that will support you in your endeavors. Network on sites such as LinkedIn with people in and on your career path. Have regular one on ones to understand where you are at and what assistance you will require to go down your desired path.

Engage in ongoing skill development through workshops, courses and certifications relevant to manufacturing, encompassing areas like process optimization, technology integration and leadership development. Participate in industry events, forums, and professional associations to build connections, exchange knowledge and stay updated on industry trends and best practices. Seek guidance from experienced mentors or coaches within or outside the organization to gain insights, perspectives and advice on navigating complex manufacturing challenges. Collaborate across departments to understand various facets of operations, enabling holistic decision-making and fostering a comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing ecosystem.

Any great leader will have a significant focus and success with retaining & ascending their current team. One of the best ways to keep and improve the people you have is with a focus on the right type of recognition for any given individual or dynamic. Utilize all of the different ways of giving recognition in order to embrace & encourage with the following formats as part of your management toolkit. These include: Public, Private , Peer-to-Peer, Structured, Milestone, Team, and Project Recognition. Become familiar with what works well for any given team member as well as the types of habits and dynamics you're looking to build and expand.

In my experience within the manufacturing plant, the approach cannot be exclusively Top-Down, but rather what I call "a continuous, recurring Top-Down / Bottom-Up approach." The Manufacturing Leader / Site Leader / Plant Manager provides the Top-Down vision that will necessarily be fine-tuned and refined with the Bottom-Up collaborators. A manufacturing/plant management level vision requires a better sense of what is needed at the bottom and not just imposed from above.

If you have to be effective leader in mfg. Ops then right MP,CP are must which gives you pulse of operation. Secondly being a leader your shop floor presence for key reviews is mandatory. This helps on site coaching, rewarding people for their good work.

The best ideas will not be yours, listen to your team and give them the support they need and get out of the way. A great leader will keep the train headed in the right direction but will not be one running the engine.
