I disagree with the part that says do research is wrong. Do research is actually correct and can be used. It can be found on Longman dictionary.

Knowing the right word combinations, like 'conduct research' instead of 'do research,' not only makes your writing sound more fluent but also more precise. Unlike idioms or fixed expressions, collocations offer flexibility depending on the context, yet they still carry a specific meaning when paired together.

Both “do” and “conduct” collocate with “research”, and if you look at corpus data, both a frequently used, so I think it is both undermining and incorrect to use this as an example of an incorrect collocation. I would recommend changing this particular example.

I think what this paragraph is trying to say is the context or rather the content is more nicer to read with something other than "do research" since this term maybe widely used and easy to script in due to its simplicity to understand and write. So why not go for something a bit not often used and alter the tone of the sentence to have a refreshing sentence. Maybe?

I'd say if you're new to academic writing, please do focus on setting a formal tone to your writing be always straight to the point and try not to make it a riddle or poetry! Because the right words set the right tone! Make the citations viable and from a verified source.
