Agree! One of the things we often forget, is our brand is a behaviour, our personal brand is a behaviour. How do we want our potential clients to act, how do we want to act to interact with our customers. Once we know who we are and what problem we are solving it is down to behaviours, whether they are on line, face to face, the behaviour the client exhibits merges with our own for us to discover and influence.

2 Be yourself

One of the most important aspects of developing your content voice is being yourself. Don't try to copy or imitate someone else's voice, or use jargon, clichés, or buzzwords that don't sound natural to you. Instead, write as if you were talking to a friend or a colleague, and use words and expressions that reflect your personality, values, and opinions. Be honest, authentic, and transparent, and don't be afraid to show some emotion, humor, or passion in your content.

When I am developing content I lean into the skills I learned in broadcast television. First, always read your copy out loud. If it helps, speak a friends name before you read it (i.e. Hey Jim, [insert copy]). It sounds odd, but it shifts the brain into a different way of thinking. If it's not something you would say to a friend, rework it. My second tip is to create a client avatar and name them. Who are they? What are their hobbies? Do they appreciate luxury or value? The more you can learn about your ideal customer the more you can speak to them. It should feel like you could have this person to your house for dinner or you could call them to tell them some exciting news.

"When you confuse, you lose" - I can't remember where I hear this phrase but it's a wise reminder that consistency is essential. Make sure your content makes sense across all your properties - website, various social media platforms, email and in-person. You can tweak your content as needed based on the difference in each platform, but at it's essence, the tone and message should be consistent.
