How do you develop your own sales style?

Write it down: Jot down words or phrases that resonate with you. This helps in identifying patterns. ?? Spot recurring themes: Are there common values that keep popping up? This is one of my favorite sales questions so far. Why? Because the majority of people believe that sales are for extroverts. Introverts are meant to be behind the cameras and watch the show. That's wrong, being an introvert, sales has been about building relationships and giving knowledge. It has been more than 5 years since I have been in sales and I have talked to 1000 people. But, I have never tried to sell anything against their wish. I don't unnecessarily brag about what I can't deliver. I worry about my reputation and words before I step foot in the prospect's office. Once I promise something, I make sure to deliver that, no matter the time or cost. I strongly believe in educating and providing value to the client.

Study successful salespeople and observe their techniques. Take note of what works for them, but don't try to mimic their style directly. Instead, adapt their strategies to align with your own personality and strengths.

In my experience, sales styles are market/industry determined. Three words best describes it for me in creating different sales styles. Research, identify and develop. * Research the market/industry you are in and get requisite knowledge * Identify the key elements and requirements to be successful in this market/industry * Develop a personal workable plan to meet and exceed the necessary requirements.

This is a great and popular question, but my answer might be pretty unpopular. To me, the best way to develop your own sales style is to learn the fundamentals of the sales technique that is best used for you're selling, and to find a way that resonates with who you are as a person. What truly connects you to the product or persona? How can you empathise with their pain, or excite them about finding a solution to a problem they may not realize they have? You should be writing, talking and thinking about these things, and after following a proven formula (which may not be the perfect approach for you - but you need to start somewhere) You should be taking chances and switching things up here and there and seeing what really flows!

?? Fine-tuning Your Strengths and Weaknesses: ?? Self-awareness: List out what you believe are your strengths and areas of improvement. ??? Feedback: Seek input from colleagues, mentors, and clients. ??? assessment tools: Tools like DISC and StrengthsFinder can offer objective insights into your personality and selling style. ?? Rank by impact: Which strengths give you the most leverage in sales? Which weaknesses hinder your performance the most? ?? Double down : It's often more effective than trying to fix every weakness. ?? Target key areas of improvement: Instead of spreading yourself thin, focus on 1-2 weaknesses that, if improved, could significantly boost your sales. ?? Continuous learning: Keep upskilling and adapting.

Strengths and weaknesses come from 2 things. 1. System 2. Process Once, you build a system for yourself, you have won half the battle. How? Because you will start identifying the loopholes and fixing them. Next comes, the process. Understand which process works best for you. If you are weak at introducing yourself. Message the prospect first, turn your cold call warmer, before you reach out to them so that you will have something to talk about. These practices are so important to assess your true strengths.

Gathering feedback from various sources, including your manager, peers, mentors, and loyal customers, is crucial. You can also use self-assessment tools like DISC, StrengthsFinder, or Myers-Briggs to discover your unique traits and motivations. Once you have identified your traits, prioritize them based on their impact on your sales journey. This way, you can leverage your strengths to gain maximum advantage and work on improving your weaknesses.

Developing your unique style and fostering self-awareness begins with seeking input from multiple sources: managers, peers, mentors, and customers. Armed with this feedback, you can make strategic decisions, leverage strengths, and address weaknesses. Sales professionals, always on the hunt for innovative methods to stand out, can find wisdom in Einstein's famous quote: "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results." I've explored various approaches in my journey, but one must embrace the power of uniqueness. We executed a strategy during my time with the Rocket Sports Properties. Instead of conventional outreach, we sent one game-used football cleat to select prospects. Our message was clear: "We want to get our foot in the door, and we'll bring the other cleat signed by the head coach. We would love to get to know you." This approach grabbed attention but also established a unique story. It's a great way to be different.

In my experience, you can never be a sales expert. You never exactly know what will work and what won't. In sales, it is more about being empathic to your client. In sales, I practice active listening. That is my technique. I ask an obvious question and I listen. Then, I repeat what the client says in a more convincing way so that he agrees with me in the first go. Once the client agrees then I start pitching what I want to sell to them. This works when you have the knowledge about the product/service you want to sell. Active listening and asking the right question is the key.

Absorb, process, and adapt. ?? Peer Reviews: Swap roles with a colleague. Observe each other's sales approach and provide insights. ?? Seek a Mentor: Wisdom shared is wisdom squared! ?? Engage in Communities: Online forums and sales networks can be treasure troves of constructive feedback. ?? Remember, what makes you unique is who you are. So do not be afraid to be yourself. Feel proud of it. Embrace your roots and love yourself. The most attractive person is the one who is attracted to themselves.

Sales is all about originality and adaptability. It is about building relationships. The more authentic you are, the better you will be able to understand the client's requirements. Another factor is to become technosmart. In the era of technology, you have more bandwidth and opportunity to connect with people across the globe. Build a global presence. I have closed more than 100 clients just by listening to them. Being honest with my words and delivering what I promised in the first place. I feel that is the simplest meaning to being authentic and adaptable.

But also, be a chameleon when necessary, adapting your approach to meet the unique needs, preferences, and expectations of your audience. It’s important to learn from experts in the field. You don’t want to copy, but you want to keep learning and apply what you feel fits your personality. In the end of the day, being yourself and creating meaningful connections is what’s important in sales.

I feel that technology has devalued the human connection. In sales especially, sometimes it is too transactional. I feel that salespeople might be getting a bit too transactional. there's no such thing as a "post-sale." Building lasting relationships with customers is essential. To do this, sales professionals should move beyond transactional thinking and immerse themselves in their industry, company, and customer needs. This understanding allows for tailored solutions and builds trust, forming the basis of long-term client relationships. In developing your sales style, remember that it's not just about selling; it's about connecting, serving, and evolving with your clients. Embrace the idea that "there is never a post-sale."

Learn to unlearn. Rather than learning from experts, read books. Read books about branding, marketing, sales, and business. And the most important, human psychology. Understand how human operates. How their mind works. Once you get a grip on the subject of human psychology, selling would be extremely easy and natural for you.

In the advent of technology, reinventing oneself is key to thriving in a saturated space. Add skills, trainings and certifications, go beyond what you are taught works. Have a feedback mechanism in place to evaluate your personal growth and development.
