After exploring the different options above, I settled on Calibre as the best option for quick and good-quality epub files. I had previously tried using InDesign CS6, but it just does not meet basic quality requirements for platforms like Smashwords and Overdrive. And creating the files manually with HTML is impractical even for computer programmers, as Calibre includes shortcuts that have already been programmed into its system. Calibre was not available a few years ago when I last tried to create epubs, so it is good this platform has been polished and made freely accessible. You should take it slow with choosing the different options and creating a table of contents, as some options create glitches.

Calibre offers the greatest ease of use, and also gives you a quality epub file. I use it to generate eBooks in a variety of formats to satisfy the different needs of beta readers and bloggers. InDesign runs a close second but I found the quality of the formats better with Calibre.
