How do you deploy a WordPress application to shared hosting?

I haven’t met a hosting company that doesn’t have a deploy system for Wordpress, you need to be more careful with managed Wordpress. Reasech this carefully and make sure you retain the admin user in case you need to move away. As long as you can install plugins you should be safe. If you’re site is simple then anyone will do but as it gets more complex the host will be a game changer for you.

find a shared hosting provider that you like their terms create an account there is usually a program to automatically install and configure wordpress if not download wordpress create a sql database remember the user name and password for the database alot of shared hosting sites use your account information automatically username and password but not always then run the wordpress installer script insert database information then go to your url

Look for where they are getting hosting from. It must be backed by good architecture and hardware. Consider plans as per bandwidth and storage you would require. I would recommend to choose wordpress managed service providers for wordpress websites such as pagely.com - wordpress.com

Most hosts will do this for you, however if you have to create the database make sure you name it something unique and that your username and password are completely different too the database name. Mostly setup is done by hosting provider. Consider securing the setup by changing tables prefix and randomly generated db, user and password. It is also recommended to make wp-config.php file as read only

Don’t do this manually unless you have too! Use a plugin like all in one migration or duplicator. If you have to do it manually, download the entire Wordpress folder making sure to get any folder with wp- If you forget anything you’ve lost the site. Once you have all the files you need to dump the database from phpmyadmin, go into it and select the root of the directory and then export to sql ( leave everything as default) On the other side you need to install Wordpress and then overwrite the database by opening it in phpmyadmin and importing the database (make sure to overwrite everything). Use a plugin instead it’s much easier

Use a backup plugin, run it and download a copy to your pc/Mac before you make any changes. One of the biggest mistakes everyone makes is not creating enough backups and relying on the host… yes they have backups but often that’s for them not for you. Rule of thumb, 1 local backup 1 backup on your machine 1 DR backup on a hard drive not attached to your machine. 1/2/3 weekly/monthly/annual backups!

Install security plugins. keep number of plugins as low as possible. Always use the latest version of plugins. change WP-admin default URL to something random. If feasible allow wp-admin only from specific public IPs. Keep offline backups

If its a critical website I would always keep my website running in any other hosting as well and in case if my primary hosting is down for any reason or my primary site is impacted by malware or hacked, I will switch to secondary hosting until primary is up again.
