Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages, depending on the topic, audience, and purpose of your video. For example, lectures are good for delivering information, but can become boring if they are too monotonous. Demonstrations are good for showing how to do something, but they can also be confusing if they are not well-executed. Animations are good for illustrating concepts and processes, but they can also be expensive or time-consuming to produce. The key is to choose the format and style that best suits your content and learning objectives, using a mix of different formats and styles to keep your videos fresh.

2 Plan and script your videos

Planning and scripting your videos will help you organize your content, structure your video, and deliver your message clearly. Practice your videos to avoid common mistakes, like rambling or omitting important information. To do so, consider the following questions: What is the main goal of your video? How will you introduce your video and capture your audience's attention? How will you transition between different sections or topics? How long will your video be? How will you use visuals, audio, or interactivity to enhance your video? Once you've answered these questions, write a detailed outline or script of your video. Also, rehearse your script before recording, to make sure that you're comfortable and confident with your delivery.

I find scripting problematic in two ways. The first is that it is incredibly time consuming. If you produce one video weekly you can easily expect to spend more ghan a work day on it. The second is that reading a script makes most of us sound fairly mechanical. I say stick woth an outline and then do what you do when teaching, talk, explain and show while being you.

Think of the video as a personal discussion with the learner. Be animated, use voice modulation to create an interest in the subject you are discussing, use hand gestures to emphasize points. Smile at the appropriate times, make a face or grimace when it's appropriate. You want to look, sound and act as if you are in a full-blown, engaging conversation with the learner. Make them feel as if they are sitting right across from you.

In addition to the above, consider length. Scaffolding videos intersperced with activities to practice ideas and techniques are important to the learning process for old and young. Shorter videos with one idea and practice session is used in the next video with support the next idea, lesson, and practice.
