No matter how good we think we are there is always something we can’t do, that we don’t enjoy doing, or that frustrates us. Finding the right partner allows us to fill the gaps for mutual benefit, and allows each party to operate in their area of genius,wading to increased motivation, alignment, and results.

I emphasize the importance of creating a culture based on mutual respect, open communication, and a shared commitment to success. This foundation fosters trust and ensures that both parties are working towards common goals.

In my experience you can move forward faster by ensuring you don’t leave anything on the table from the client. That doesn’t just mean taking everything that’s on offer, it’s about making sure the end client gets exactly what they need. For example, if your client needs 5 things and you’re great at 3 of them, but not so great at the other 2, introducing a trusted and aligned partner(s) will benefit the client because they get a much better holistic service, you just need to ensure that the right level of coordination and project management exists between all parties, so that effective communication happens, and that everyone is clear on their responsibilities, so that all parties stay in control.

Finding the right partners involves a careful evaluation of potential partners' values, goals, and capabilities. I look for partners who complement our strengths and share our vision for success. By aligning on core values and strategic objectives from the outset, we set the stage for a productive and long-lasting partnership.

I agree, the motivation and mindset has to exist to enable effective partnerships. Things aren’t always going to go smoothly, so having an open and trusting dialogue will help keep the alignment. Talking to people through clear, open channels of communication, doing your research, asking for referrals, demonstrating your capabilities and showing your vulnerabilities are good ways of earning trust. I personally find the right partners by listening to what they have to say and reflecting on it using my head, my heart, and ultimately my gut.

In my experience. Spending a bit more time defining shared goals and ambitions, as well as boundaries is absolutely crucial to success. This exercise needs to be done with the input of all key stakeholders to have any chance of being understood and implemented and in longer term collaborations, ideally you want a show and tell at various points to remind people of what is being jointly achieved and what progress is being made.

Aligning around a common successful outcome and a set of core values and guiding principles can massively help here, so that people are clear on how they should behave, along with a sound understanding of where they are going and how they are going to get there, what the shared goals are, and knowing who needs to do what by when.
