Crafting a robust data strategy in a corporate setting involves strategic alignment, precision in metric selection, feasibility assessment, and actionable insights. 1. Strategic Alignment:Align data strategy with broader business objectives for seamless integration. 2. Precision in Metrics:Choose relevant, measurable metrics, like accuracy percentages for data quality improvement. 3. Feasibility Assessment:Ensure selected metrics are realistically achievable within existing workflows. 4. Actionable Insights:Translate numerical data into tangible steps for improvement, e.g., targeted interventions for suboptimal user adoption. In summary, these are broad strokes in a data strategy but should be more focused on business value.

There are measurements the rest of the org cares about, and there are measurements they don't. Add a dimension that defines whether metrics/KPIs need to be shared across the org. For example: If you're undertaking a data quality remediation initiative, measurements around accuracy and timeliness aren't particularly important to your stakeholders. The measurements around the impact on their marketing campaigns are, so prioritise these in comms.

In my area of experience over the recent past and current, I believe starting with: 1. What's the Purpose 2. Setting OKR's (objectives & Key results) that ladder up to purpose. 3. Do we have the culture to obtain them Let your data strategy have 100% buy-in from stakeholders with the talent to see it through. Remember measure what matters and not what your competitor/s does.

Data sources are not a problem but the quality of data ingested into your environment. You can obtain data from the relevant areas of input but implementation of data validation at source will serve well in the future. These are some of the things I look into when thinking of Visualizing data: 1. Speak to the end user first - Understand the requirements. 2. Understand the Why - is metric required next to this metric - do they speak towards key results or objectives? 3. Data preferred sources - the cadence of ingestion and data types, size, and so on. 4. Then think of the layout of the dashboard - put together mockups for the end user. 5. Lastly Build the pretty Dashboard - Test with end user for total buy-in for use.

During this step, it's critical to remember your organization's value proposition and corporate vision. Not every organization will excel or struggle with the same things. Knowing what is most important to your organization specifically can help frame how to compare to competitors or industry benchmarks.

Collect information on their data collection methods, sources, and data quality. Analyze how they store, manage, and analyze data, considering data privacy and security measures. Keep monitoring competitors for ongoing insights. This comprehensive evaluation informs one's own data strategy improvements and helps one stay competitive in the market.

Data Strategy is not a stand along concept. It is and should be tied closely to the Business Strategy, Architecture strategy as well as the individual Business Unit / org strategy.
