There shouldn't be a minimum experience requirement to be a Supply Chain director. It can be a 5 year experienced trail blazer, a wannabe CEO, passionate about building relationships with a Win3 mindset. Tim Cook (Apple) was originally managing the complex Supply chain division when Apple was up and coming. He redefined supply chain in electronics manufacturing. Another critical aspect is networking, SCD is not a desk job, should be attending symposiums, conferences, giving interviews, establishing partnerships with key partners (not suppliers) to de-risk and provide certainty to business.
