How do you become a project architect?

It is mostly down to the desire to play a bigger part in the architectural design process, pursuing management, a wider exposure to stakeholders and a holistic approach to the profession. There must be skills in design team coordination, moving between top-down and bottom-up approaches, client facing and communication, problem solving and balancing of practicality, regulatory compliance and aesthetics.

How do you become a project architect... Besides what you learn in school, you should also learn everything that is architecturally appropriate with deep and extensive experience and above all learn in real work, how or what the correct application of theory to the actual is. and the continuous study of new innovative materials, and respectful treatment or association with all (clients, contractors, office colleagues and above all workers). The success of the project will be achieved by all.

In my experience, you should start off with a wide range of interests and skills, as unless you really give everything a go, it’s difficult to eliminate and say for certain that you don’t want to do it. Keep an open mind and learn as much as possible off your colleagues - ask to shadow meetings and site visits to immerse yourself in as many different project scenarios as possible.

To become a Project Architect, it's like training to be a master builder: 1. Learn Lots: Go to a special school (university) to learn about building design. 2. Practice Building: Work with experienced architects, like an apprenticeship, to learn how they do things. 3. Pass a Big Test: Take a really important test that shows you know how to be an architect. 4. Get Official: Get a special license that says, "Yes, you can be an architect!" 5. Draw and Plan: Work on lots of projects, drawing and planning buildings. 6. Keep Learning: Always learn new things about building designs and how to make them better.

Depending on your location, becoming an architect is a long journey and it takes dedication and strength to complete. Think about it thoroughly and then think again. In the UK, it takes 3 years to complete Part 1 Bachelor’s Degree, 2 years to complete Part 2 which is a Master’s Degrees and you also need to have in practice experience for at least 2 years to complete your part 3 Office Based Examination if you feel that you have sufficient knowledge and experience of running a project.

An example route in the UK is to ask companies for summer internships and get a sense of the scale and type of projects and companies out there. Once you have completed your Part 1 Architectural Education, you can start applying for Part 1 job positions - key skills to have are software knowledge for CAD and 3D as well as rendering software, keen eye for detail and showing that you are willing to learn!

In my experience and in the country I live, reputation exceeds the most. Whether you are well-educated, specialist, or anything, if you gain the fame, you will be adored and respected more than anyone else. While in here the most uneducated are the richest, I recommend to any young architect to seek the fame and publicity more than anything else.

Something most architects overlook is designing for the field. Understanding sequencing of work and means & methods, although not the architects responsibility goes a long way in tailoring the design to optimize its constructability. A good project architect needs to have this understanding to ensure good designs turn into good builds too. I learned this from my former manager and a fellow architect.

In my experience, working at a small to a mid sized firm introduces and exposes you to more aspects of a project, which can be expanded upon in specific roles at larger firms or bigger projects. However we can’t ignore firm and corporate culture. People always put on people they trust.
