Successful candidates also need strong communication and people skills.

So, for anything to accomplish anything, you need to be committed; you need to be passionate. You need to be at least 18 years of age. You should have finished your Senior Secondary school, should have fluency in English. You should clear your background check which will be done by the local police. Depending on the airlines, they may ask for higher education. A customer service experience is always a welcome thing.

Once selected by the airline, you need to undergo the basic trainings on safety management, Human factors, emergency equipment, customer service, communication, airlines policies and procedures etc. You need to clear the evaluation exams that are conducted from time to time during your training. You also need to demonstrate your skills in simulated emergency scenarios. Also, you are trained on air regulations which are so important as these govern the skies internationally. Remember, in times of emergencies, lives of hundreds of passengers depend on how well you have trained.

You can undergo paid training independently or receive training from an airline upon selection. I strongly recommend pursuing various training opportunities while awaiting selection by a company, as each company may have distinct requirements. Additionally, training in your native language can better prepare you in the event you are later hired by a company where a different language is spoken. Understanding the content in your native language will make the learning process smoother, as opposed to grappling with a new language and unfamiliar subject matter. You can also add other sort of trainings in your field of interest, such as cooking, sommelier, butler training , which could all add to your customer service.

As a flight attendant is very important to be very adaptable. There can be change in schedule, loose your days off, have to be working on Christmas, new years and on family events. Punctuality is very important, as it is a military based environment; if you are on time: you are late. It’s important to always keep yourself updated, in both safety and security as well in service standards.

Once the trainings are done, you are inducted as an attendant. Remember that being an attendant is not an easy task, with lots of travels, lots of changes in cultures, lots of schedule changes. It carries lots of responsibilities towards the airlines, the passengers and regulators. Many a times, you need to be working at odd hours, in odd environmental scenarios, like bad weather, etc. You need to take care of the sick, and for that you would be trained on providing first aid training. You might have to forgo your holidays, weekends, and at times, you will have to celebrate the festivals on flight duties.

As you get more trained, you need to keep adding to your educational qualifications, more experience to shine above the crowd. Over a period of time, you would be promoted as Lead attendant; of course all depends on your continued superior job on the flights. It is always advisable to keep adding to your educations.
