EMT training programs usually last several weeks to a few months, depending on the level of certification. Gain Hands-On Experience: EMT training includes classroom instruction as well as hands-on experience in clinical settings such as hospitals or ambulance services. You'll learn skills such as patient assessment, airway management, CPR, bandaging, splinting, and how to use medical equipment.

In Ohio....Our program is 170 hours and 10 Hours of clinical time. State minimum is 150 hours and 10 hours of clinical. Course delivered in many different time/dates. Over the years, we have tried to deliver the program over 4 weeks, 40 hours per week, but it is impossible for staff as well as students. Most times it is 2 evenings a week, 4 hours per night or 2 days during the week for 16 hours. What we have found is students do not realize the time required to commit to studying.

2 Certification and Licensure

After completing your education and training program, you need to pass the NREMT exam, which consists of a cognitive (written) and a psychomotor (practical) test. The exam will assess your ability to apply the knowledge and skills you learned in your program to various scenarios and situations. As an EMT you will be on band 4 on the NHS pay scale or as a senior EMT band 5. This is accessible online. Once you are an EMT you will be able to up skill to become a paramedic if you wished.
