User-Centered Design (UCD) offers an opportunity to solve problems by understanding user needs to accomplish a task. UCD enables the development of innovative ideas into new solutions. The focus on user discovery, empathy, and ideation are the foundations of UCD. Applying creative approaches to build, test, learn and iterate is part of UCD to design new innovative solutions. For example, if we were to design a hand-held system for the in-cabin crew of a passenger airline that handles passenger requests, a UCD approach would be to start with the crew, the user we are looking to serve. By understanding their roles and perspectives and seeing the world through their lens, we can design solutions centered around them.
