How do you balance the demands of relationships in your role?

Being able to emphasize and just get people is a huge part of it. Taking a step back and reflecting on all sides, allowing yourself to see what’s important is a must. From experience while working in management and scheduling with IT, it’s important to make sure communication is key. This will help create the common goal at hand. Both parties have the same goal, it’s just a matter of how to accomplish it from both ends. Coming together and working together as a team will ensure this. Listening and understanding both sides, asking questions where needed. Really respecting both sides and getting the job done.

Understanding the clients needs is essential to managing business relationships. Actively listen to uncover clues on whats important to the client, what they value and how I can elevate their experiences. Taking ownership and following up creates a relationship they will value for a long time and keeps me as a priority when they think of conducting business in the future. I always treat people as I would like to be treated no matter how minor or major the situation.

I have established a 4-tiered system, which determines the priority and time partners are given. 1: Most important. Generally, larger brands require a lot of cross-departmental collaboration from both sides. These oftentimes have reoccurring Zoom calls in addition to ongoing communication. 2: Important. Generally, these are agencies with large volume or high potential. These partners often need assistance for events or escalating issues and are assigned a success coach for 1:1 support. 3: Midlevel priority. These are partners on the decline or have not ramped how we expected & often move into tier 2 or 4. 4: Lower priority. These partners have a low chance of success and are serviced off of automated emails or general support.

To balance relationships effectively, understand your partners' preferred communication. Offer options while explaining the common choices. Find a communication rhythm that suits both parties and respects their time, taking into account time zones, personal commitments, and where you stand in the priority list. I find that in split time zones, slack can work better, but it’s worth noting that slack doesn’t have an out of office feature so some messages might be accidentally ignored!

100 % setting up clear expectations from day 1 is extremely important this will strengthen the relationship in longer run. So being clear and precise with both side expectations is crucial.

With any new partnership, I always set a goals meeting to lay out clear goals and expectations for each side of the partnership to ensure it makes sense to move forward. By the end of the call, we have set SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound) that we can easily track against. This is also a great opportunity to evaluate if our goals are too misaligned to advance in a partnership.

As a branch manager in a financial institution, I balance it by establishing and maintaining regular and effective communication.
