How do you balance AI capabilities with artistic vision in film production?

One valuable addition to consider is the importance of experimentation and exploration. Filmmakers can use AI capabilities as a tool for pushing creative boundaries and exploring new artistic frontiers. By experimenting with AI-driven techniques and technologies, filmmakers can discover innovative ways to tell stories, evoke emotions, and engage audiences in ways that were previously unimaginable. This spirit of exploration fosters a culture of innovation within the film industry, encouraging filmmakers to embrace new ideas, take calculated risks, and ultimately push the boundaries of what is creatively possible.

AI is a great tool but it will be wrong to totally depend on it for the output of your creative project. One must be intentional about leading and feeding the AI the elements that are specific to that artiste to curate something truly unique and meaningful.

I am excited to be able to use resources such as CHATGPT to help start the creative process. A lot of times I get stuck at being able to put my ideas on paper so the idea of starting a conversation with AI and building off of that has been a tremendous help. Now I have a better system to be able to better communicate my ideas and quicker.

Any type of artistic creation is driven by our need to reflect the human experiance. AI can't give us that. The best it can give is a mimic of that experiance based soley on copying other humans experiances. Too much CGI in movies, for instance, can break the spell that movies cast upon us, the same will be true for AI.

I'm always looking for ways to improve efficiency and maximize the impact of our films. And although at first I had my reservations towards the AI-ing filmmaking process but trust it has been a game-changer. Imagine being able to analyze audience demographics and preferences to tailor marketing campaigns or leverage AI-to create unseen and truly compelling and new sets. However, AI should never dictate the creative process. My role is to curate a team of talented individuals, from directors to VFX artists, and foster an environment where their artistic vision can flourish. AI serves as a powerful tool in this collaborative effort. The key lies in striking a balance.

Many filmmakers worry that AI might replace their roles, but for micro-budget filmmakers, AI has been transformative. In pre-production, AI streamlines storyboarding, helping filmmakers present their visions to clients without breaking the bank. It also provides access to original music without distribution hurdles, all at a minimal cost. Without large studio resources, AI enables micro-budget filmmakers to create expansive, detailed sets using Generative Fill and similar technologies. Today, technology removes barriers to great filmmaking. By embracing AI and integrating it with human creativity, micro-budget filmmakers can produce exceptional cinematic experiences.

The problem is that a lot of people think AI has no chance of infringing copy writing but it does, the fact that the engine "creates" something out of a prompt, doesn't mean that idea belongs to you. A lot of lawsuits will occur from now on because people are not very original and think they are the first ones to come up with: write me a movie about "zombies vs vampires"... No one will think about that sure... Don't trust a machine to interpret your dreams, be authentic, develop them first, register and then use the tool to upgrade them, but I would never create something from scratch using AI.

This would be the direction to go as a good balance between AI and human creative intervention. Mishaps and fumbles add to the human touch creating the natural feel. Being human is not surgical but chaos with a purpose.

In a world of appearances it is getting harder to determine human genuity from AI however there is also the industry of ghost writing that often doesn't credit authors with their work often hid by employment or hire contracts. So it is not just AI that can lead to ethical dilemmas. It starts with us and How we use it. It is an observant guess that any damage around ethics AI has created will always be the forerunner to proper laws to govern it. I fear it will be a catchup effort and some may say futile to cover every ethical aspect around it. Each of us until then will be responsible in how we utilize it.

There is no doubt that AI will become an indispensable tool in the post-production industry, soon offering a surreal range of capabilities. This being said, the more artistic skills a filmmaker possesses, the greater the potential for AI to assist in bringing that creative vision to life. On the other hand, individuals lacking a clear vision can still utilize AI to generate visually intriguing imagery. However, a story that was created from genuine human emotions, feels like it possesses a soul, whereas stories created solely by AI lack that emotional depth. In summary, AI should primarily serve as a tool rather than a substitute for a filmmaker's creative ability.

La figura del “ Ser Humano Creador” es indispensable en el arte y el arte es subjetivo. A unos les puede gustar y a otros no. Lo que si es cierto, es que el arte creativo significa SENSIBILIDAD y eso, hasta ahora, es privilegio de algunos seres humanos. Los artistas, manifestándose en las diversas ramas de la creación. I think there is a big risk of making everything generic and boring. You can tell a machine what to do to, but you can never ask them how you feel, and art its all about that. Innovation is a happy word, but stories are not innovations, they are manifestations from within our experiences, and each one of us has a different approach to them. Again, if you feel nothing, you are not articulated, experienced, well traveled, the machine will not benefit from much and it will create something generic.

With AI advancements, both low-budget and high-budget films will debut more frequently, making it challenging for audiences to distinguish between them based solely on visuals and effects. As possibilities are endless, the defining factors of a good film will increasingly hinge on the plot twists, story, and underlying message.

Its an activity, an art form, a right, an escape and mostly a craft. We love to do them and be admired by it. I for one don't feel very exited about a movie spending machine, I enjoy the complexity of materializing a human idea. Its like buying a video game and immediately use cheat codes becuase it makes it easy, who wants it to be easy?? With that mentality nothing will have any sense of awe and adventure. And that is filmmaking for me.
