In my experience solving problems with code, the real value is truly given when the problem is understood greatly. One must be genuinely empathetic, yet logical; to decipher the user pain points and produce a working and usable solution. Identify the user pain points via stories (personas), and have a clear roadmap to solve this via flowchart. If you are a developer or engineer, translate the sketched-out flowchart to pseudocode; if you are a designer - a wireframe. At this stage, always put the user front and center.

In my opinion first thing is to learn about the programming concept what you have not used earlier. 1) Learn it by thinking every use case on which it is applicable. To learn concept in every aspect all way is the most important key before you use. 2)Note down what problems it solve or what benefits it is providing. For example : reusability, better system architecture etc. 3) Consider the cons or drawbacks as well. It depends on situation or requirements those cons are really matter or not. 4) Now it comes to application, define your problem ie what type of the problem you are trying to solve? For example, Creational, Structural, Behavioural etc. Based on type you can use which is best fit to your requirements.

I first write out a synopsis of requirements and try to write out everything I know about the issue. I then go and look at the industry standard solution for the problem.

More natural will be like you can select a programming language and it will provide you other option which you can select to implement the solution (like frameworks, tools etc) or it can work on opposite way (you want to use some specific tool (library or framework, etc) then you have limitations of inherited language).

TDD - Test driven development is a great technique to write extremely great quality of code. Some people might say that increases the delivery tkme, but it in turn reduces the total time taken for a stable product to go live. Developer's job is not just to code and pass on the feature full of bugs to the QA team. Their job is to ensure that a high quality of feature is being sent for QA that will reduce the back and forth and in turn reduce the overall time-to-go-live time. Before giving it to QA a developer should test and debug their code as well, otherwise the quality and speed both will take a lot of hit.

Functional testing is yet another powerful way to test the overall accuracy of the expected vs actual output. The structure, values and behaviour can be tested using this. A number of frameworks like Gherkin and cucumber are available to assist with functional testing.

Particularly with seniors, they've almost always dealt with your problem before and know a way of dealing with it, often optimally. Refactoring is not something that can be started after finishing something - it can be started in any moment when you realise that this code can be or should be improved. Some big refactorings like change architecture pattern may lead to big reworks, so as earlier this gap was identifed as less time it will take to reimplement the solution.

Now, you can just create new private branches and fearlessly try new ideas, safe in the knowledge that you can just delete any failed experiments at any time. Even so, the knowledge thus gained can be very valuable. You can even safely create several private low-quality commits during development and then later rewrite and rebase them into something (potentially even one single commit) more sensible for public (or mainline) consumption.
