I agree. I have recently completed some testing of hot mix asphalt samples with waste plastic as partial bitumen binder replacement. The tests carried out were: Marshall Stability, Flow and Quotient and Air Void Analysis. The results showed that samples with PET content (plastic) had higher stability, lower flow and lower air void content than those without. All indicating that the stiffness of the mix was improved and that there was better adhesion between aggregate and binder within the mix. I was able to determine that introducing PET as a partial replacement for bitumen, approx 300,000 thousand bottles could be recycled for a 1km stretch of resurfacing and huge amounts of CO2 could be saved by reducing the amount of bitumen used.
