How do you adapt UX research methods for different audiences?

Always discuss with your stakeholder for which segment of users you want to conduct the research to. And don’t forget to stand in your user’s shoes while also aiming for your business goals. We are all trying to reduce this gap after all.

As a UX researcher, I couldn't agree more with the importance of customer research outlined in this paragraph. Understanding the problems, goals, and motivations of your users is at the core of creating successful user experiences. The emphasis on selecting the right research methods based on various factors is spot on. It's crucial to tailor your approach to your specific context, audience, and project constraints.

In my experience in UI/UX design, I have found that participants' language proficiency plays a crucial role when testing products or prototypes developed in foreign languages. For instance, assessing a product primarily in English with non-native speakers might lead to skewed results. The participants could read slower, take longer to comprehend the content, or potentially miss crucial elements, resulting in incomplete or inaccurate feedback.

In my opinion, in order to develop something valuable for people, one must first grasp the customer's cultural background and personality.This will improve the quality of customer research.

User research and usability testing throughout the design process. Encourage stakeholders to involve users early on and gather their feedback to inform design decisions. Share success stories and case studies that demonstrate the value of user research in improving products and services.

Identifying what your stakeholder is expecting is important and you might have to talk to them in their language. For example, Clients will understand the "Impact" your product will create, Managers will understand in terms of feasibility of your solution, Investors will understand the numbers (of dollars) your idea is going to crunch, so on and so forth. What's important is that you make every stakeholder understand your vision in their own language, and in the process you need to carve a path for all of them to meet on a single plane, which is your product.

When collaborating with developers, open communication is key. Finding that middle ground between UX research and what's feasible for implementation is crucial. It's also essential to grasp the limits of current software. We embraced co-designing sessions to foster open discussions with the development team allowing us to craft user experiences that were achievable and practical, not just wishful thinking.

Gaining crystal clear clarity on audience can help you segment your audience appropriately following which you can tailor your recruitment strategy accordingly.
