Remember a job advert and job description are two different things. The advert should be an attractive, snappy and briefer version of a job description ensuring you draw candidates in to sell the position. A job description is a formal comprehensive document outlining as much detail as possible about the role and responsibilities. Its important that employers don't confuse this and just paste the job description to use as an advert as the length, tone and detail will often not have the impact needed to attract busy job seekers to hit that apply button!

I always like to consider candidates as possible clients for the company... and they are... in many ways. So provide a candidate experience in the same way as you would do with a customer. Would you keep a customer waiting? and if you do, wouldn't you apologise? Would you leave a meeting without making sure the customer really wants to buy from you? In the end, customers and candidates are people, and we all want the same basic things. Respect and attention.

Train your interviewers - they have the biggest impact on the candidate's experience during and after the interview. Remember that the interviewers are the ambassadors of your company and their job is not only to find a suitable future team member but also to "sell" the company as a whole. The interviewers need to be aware that an interview is a discussion, not an interrogation. Sure, we're looking for an excellent talent to join us, but "the talent" is also considering different options and making sure that the candidate has a positive experience after the interview with our company creates better chances that he or she will choose our offer above others.

An interview is a serious dating process between Employees and Employers. Almost every one in the world focuses on the employees skills. I feel that the most important aspect of evaluating a hiring relationship is to focus on values and belief systems. Who the candidates are, today, and right now. Not what they have done in the past necessarily, not what they may have accomplished; but what they can do, moving forward. How will their natural behaviour and innate decision making process can work in this new job. How will they fit in? What kind of conflicts might they face with the hiring manager and the team? Will they be happy? How will they contribute to the team? How will they evolve? What training do they personally need. All are key!
