It should be succinct 'and communicate the background of the research, methods/approach, results and interpretation and wider implications of your work. The abstract is the last thing you should write on after conclusion and also the first part of your lab report often seen by reviewers and readers. The number of words required for the abstract is specific and then dependent on the type of journal. It is normally within 150-250 words.
