Ask does the reader need this information at this time. Sometimes details are needed but they are better in an appendix or included in supplemental material. If the writing is too dense, a reader may get lost. Too much redundancy can loose your reader. I've worked on a procedure where I would get lost because of the redundancy. If the redundancy is caused by two similar options, put extra emphasis on the differences between the options. You want them to stand out as unique options.
Editing is not a one-time or one-way process. It involves checking and improving different aspects of your document, such as spelling, grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, style, tone, structure, coherence, consistency, accuracy, etc. To edit effectively, you need to edit in multiple rounds and modes, such as self-editing, peer-editing, proofreading, reading aloud, reading backwards, using online tools, etc. You also need to focus on one aspect at a time and give yourself some time and distance between each round and mode.
You will always miss errors when you self review. Always take help of peer-review, as there is a brighter chance of catching mistakes with second eye. You tend to overlook your mistakes no matter how carefully you go through again and again.
I'm not a good writer, I'm a good editor. What does that mean? First, don't edit on the move. Get the first draft done, don't stop. You'll know some sentences are ugly, that the analogy isn't right, the syntax clumsy. That doesn't matter at first. Get. It. Done. Then leave it for as long as you can. Go fishing. Fly a kite. Start another project. Call your gran. Change your perspective and then come back with an eager pen and expect to chop and cut and change. First proof read, then read aloud. Read aloud again. Use tools for the punctuation and grammar. Or ask your editor. This is the first round. Leave it again. Change your perspective. Then go back and do round two. As you get more experience writing your editing skills improve.

If the underlying structure is not strong then the story won't be strong regardless of how much genre-related dressing up is added.
