We are constantly telling stories. My mentor grew up in "The D" (Detroit), and she never shies from authenticity. Her tenacity, resilience, and stories of how she navigated the realm of higher education as a marginalized individual are invaluable. One scenario is how she navigated criticism and persecution in the midst of career elevation. From being denied access to promotions due to envious department administrators, to negotiating and communicating her intrinsic value as a consultant, her unconditional positive regard (despite opposition) is masterful. There is much "fertility in failure," and our paths are better illuminated from the light of mentorship.
