In my experience, while conducting a SWOT analysis is important, strategic planning requires looking beyond the present to envision future possibilities. Successful strategies involve understanding where you want to be and the necessary steps to get there. It requires a forward-looking approach, incorporating trends, foresight, and scenario planning. Anticipate changes, understand emerging needs, and identify potential innovations or disruptions. Integrate this foresight with a clear vision and actionable goals. This ensures your strategic plan is grounded in current realities and aligned with future growth, positioning you to thrive amidst change.

1. Organise Scenario Planning Workshops. Conduct workshops where cross functional teams explore multiple future scenarios . It gives you and insight into all the threats and opportunities and helps devise strategies to take calculated risks to navigate each potential outcome. 2. Gamification to test new Strategy. Deploy the strategy in pilot scenario to study the outcome. It will give you more insights to sharpen the strategy before deployment on larger scale.

To start a strategic plan, assess your situation using a SWOT analysis or brainstorming. Identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to understand where you stand, areas for improvement, levers and challenges to overcome.

While I do acknowledge the value of evaluating one's current situation using methods like SWOT analysis, what I prefer is to focus more on recognizing patterns and forward-looking signals. This approach has propelled me towards a more insightful strategic plan, as it creates a clear roadmap that generates stronger impact. Identifying imminent trends and adjusting our course based on these forecasts helps us stay ahead of the curve. At the same time, detecting existing gaps is paramount. It's about understanding where we currently stand but also predicting where we want to be - 'Beginning with the end in mind'. Future-focused planning coupled with an honest assessment of our present allows us to create sound strategies

I believe that you cannot look at thought leadership without the lens of strategy. One can define clear, measurable objectives that align with the overarching vision. Strategies are then formulated as broad approaches to achieve these objectives, while tactics are the specific actions or steps that will be taken to implement each strategy. When formulating a strategic plan, it is crucial to ensure that it is flexible and adaptable

Getting feedback allows us to course correct. I prefer interpretation though there are many different forms of feedback. When there is meaning behind any feedback, it helps us to make the relevant shifts needed much faster and easier. Along the way, asking questions and getting some candid insights on your initiatives further helps us to progress far better.
