How can you use social media to inspire and motivate your team?

I would add; dare to be personal. Many executive managers mistakenly equate being personal with being unprofessional. I argue the opposite. By sharing personal stories, including both successes and failures, and being willing to show vulnerability, you become a role model. I believe authenticity is more inspiring and motivating than presenting a facade of perfection.

For many companies, the social media feed is the living and breathing voice of the company. If you use social to share positive news about the company or individual employee achievements, that can be extremely inspirational for the wider team.

I do believe that creating a vision internally is critically important in any organization. I'm not so sure that communicating that vision externally, via social media, is as important. The most successful companies I know create a mission statement or have a set of corporate values that are crystal clear and come directly from the top. I suggest that hiring align strongly with those core values. Social media, in my mind, is better suited for clearly articulating a value proposition. This is particularly important with technical products/services. Answer why potential buyers/partners would want to work with you. Leave the vision internally, treat your people right, and your vision will naturally grow and thrive.

Very easily - put them in it, make them the Stars. People want recognition no matter how mundane the task they perform so celebrate it all as imaginatively as possible

For this to really work, it needs to be a private in-house social media platform designed for the company, in the purpose of offering them a safe place to express themselves. And this MUST be anonymous and SHOULD be avatar-based, otherwise it'll fall in the same trap as Instagram. Your employees would likely pretend that they're happy and the convos get stuck in the superficial.

Building trust goes through reliability and personal relationships. I am skeptic Social Media can play a big role in this aspect.

To ensure stakeholders understand the risks of pressure handling, focus on clear communication and support. Regularly update them on potential stress points in projects, provide training on stress management, and encourage open discussions for sharing experiences and concerns. Personal check-ins can help tailor support to individual needs. Leading by example in balancing workload and stress, along with a feedback mechanism for continuous improvement, is essential. This approach fosters a culture of awareness and resilience.

Not popular but there are many metrics on social media that are manufactured to sell more services. One at LI is views-when you understand what it means, you’ll find it is not a real metric. I would/ do encourage use of communicating here as these platforms are very useful. Share content, and then do NOT rely on social media to do the work you need to do elsewhere in your community, at clients. You have to engage humans

Walk the talk. One of the most important things is authenticity. You can’t show something in social media that you are not in the offline world. If in social media you are speaking about the importance of being a good listener, you should be, or at least try, to practice an active listening with your colleagues. Otherwise there is no point about trying to build any kind of communication in social media.

Social Media is unavoidable nowadays, also for internal comms. Even more so, if your team is split across various places. However: Social Media is full of pitfalls: - Not every platform is suitable for everything. - Social Media has a more informal tone than e-mail. - You can loose your time easily in Social Media. So can your staff. Just to mention 3 common traps. So choose wisely, what to communicate where. But also: Try and error. Every Manager has his or her own style. Be yourself. You′re more corporate - be the same in SM. You′re more personal - be the same in SM. Do a bit of SM every week. Interact with your staff. Share/Like/Comment. But don′t overdo it. The real life mostly still happens outside SM.
